Round

"reach" - ryan
d90 - 63mm equiv, f2.8, 1/320, iso200

"Necklace" - Matt
Made in Hong Kong... and bought in Hong Kong.
f/11, 3sec, 50mm

"Doorknob" - Cary

I spent about 45 minutes shooting in downtown Vicksburg one morning before work and this cool old doorknob was the result. Probably has lots of stories to tell. Many of the interesting round subjects I saw, however, needed afternoon light but that wasn't possible this week.

E-3 w/ 70-300mm @ 149mm, 1/125 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 100

"Big Brother is Watching" - Mike

Do you ever feel like the web cam is watching you? It's probably just one of those crazy conspiracy theories.
55 mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec., ISO 800, Flash, Manual

"Blueberries" - Lee

This is the picture I chose for this week's challenge. Not the most exciting, but blueberries are indeed round. I took advantage of going to the farmer's market with my friends as a chance to search for round things. I was very tempted to buy some of these blueberries, but at $4/lb. I found the will in me to resist.

f/3.3, 1/30sec, 28mm

"Round" - Lisa

"Flashlights at Night" - Aaron

My boys have been into playing with flashlights at night to read books and such, so I thought it would be fun to capture a longer-shutter speed shot with them drawing circles. This photo shoot was going well until Jacob ended up getting bonked in the head. That quickly brought an end to the photo shoot. But the pictures turned out fun.

0.5 sec, f/3.5, 18mm, ISO 100

Picture a Song

"Bethany Boardwalk" - Kirk
"Under the boardwalk, we'll be having some fun". I was a bit lazy going through my vacation photos and was slow posting this week. We had a fun time at the beach and the boardwalk of this quaint little town seemed like a good subject for the challenge.
18mm, f/16.0, 0.6 sec., ISO 200

"Itsy Bitsy Spider" - Mike
Okay, so the golden silk orb weaver is not very small (not this female anyway), but it was a very interesting looking spider that has made a huge web in front of my shed.
55 mm, f/8.0, 1/30 sec., ISO 800

<"Little pink houses for you and me..." - Cary There's this pink house on Halls Ferry Road here in Vicksburg - if you've driven past it, you know it. I thought I'd emphasize it's pinkness... not that it really needs it, of course. E-3 w/ 12-60mm @ 17mm, 1/80 sec @ f/8, ISO 100

"Well she's walking through the cloud... riding with the wind" - Matt
"Little Wing" by Jimi Hendrix
Our friends let me take pictures of their kids while they were over. This one looked like it would make a good high-key-ish black and white that might fit the song.
50mm, f/1.8, 1/45sec

"Row, Row, Row Your Boat(s)" - Lisa
I was asked to be the photographer at the girl's camp this year. It was a beautiful campground and I enjoyed finding new material to take photos of.
f/5.6, 1/160sec, 16mm

All aboard the "Crazy Train" - Aaron
Jacob loved these glasses that Adan got from school, and he loves playing with this train, so this picture just worked out.
f/4.0, 1/30 sec, ISO 800 , EF-S 18-55 @ 24mm

Next Week's Challenge
Southern Shots
19 August 2009 - Weekly Photo Challenge: "Round"
Due: 26 August 2009
The idea for this topic comes from a commercial photographer named Joe Glyda by way of Scott Kelby's newest digital photography book (which I highly recommend - see it here, it's inexpensive and filled with good stuff). The idea is that Joe gives himself assignments for a specific period of time: in a one-hour period of time in a specific part of town, shoot only things that are round. So, we have a week to shoot things that are round but I'll leave the restriction about where you shoot up to you.

Happy Shooting!

"Untitled" - Lisa

Monday evening's flight out of Tampa was another opportunity for me to take pictures from the air - something I've been enjoying lately.

Hands at Work

"Nurturing Hands" - Mike
Maybe a bit of a stretch for the topic, but I really liked this shot.
35 mm, f/5.0, 1/2000 sec., ISO 400, A-priority

"Housework" - Cary
Some of the best housework Angie does is play the piano and fill our home with music.
E-3 w/ 12-60mm @ 46mm, 1/20 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200

"Leftover Bike Parts" - Matt
These look important... I wonder where they go?
3sec, 38mm, f/11

Next Week's Challenge:
12 Aug 2009
Weekly Photo Challenge: "Picture a Song"
Due: 19 Aug 2009

Next week's challenge is music-related. Basically you can choose your subject and/or technique for the shot based on the title or lyrics of a song.

Also, thanks to Matt's suggestion, if you have a good "bonus" (i.e. non-theme related) shot, please post. I don't think we're requiring you to have a theme post in order to have a bonus post. So let's see what you've been shooting this week!

"Sunset at 30,000 Feet" - Cary
One benefit of having to travel too much is that you get chances for nice shots from the air. I'm often jealous of the great views they must have in the cockpit.
E-3 w/ 12-60mm @ 19mm, 1/5 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 400

Shot from Above

"pollinating" - Kirk
I saw this little guy out in the back yard and tried taking a few different shots and liked this result.
200 mm, f/5.6, 1/40 sec., ISO 200

"Three Red Mushrooms" - Cary
The coolest red mushrooms pop up in my yard in the summer when we get enough rain. These three made a nice "shot from above" picture, I thought.
E-3 w/ 12-60mm @ 27mm, 1/13 @ f/8, ISO 100, RAW proc. in ALR2 & PS-CS3

"Climbing" - Mike
I really like taking pictures of kids climbing the nifty ladders they have on playgrounds these days. I tried getting my own kids, but they were too quick. So I had to settle for my niece instead.
18 mm, f/5.0, 1/320 sec., ISO 400

"Jenga" - Matt
Thought this would be a fun shot.
f/11, 15sec., 18mm

05 August 2009 - Weekly Photo Challenge: "Hands at Work"
Due: 12 August 2009

Cary is busy this week and gave me a chance to pick the category. I thought it could be interesting to focus in on hands. We'll add a section below each week for any additional pictures you want to share/discuss with the group.

"Turtle" - Matt

He let me get right up in his face to take this.
