Weather

"Nice Weather for Flying" - Cary
My friend, David Abraham, has a plane and loves to fly, especially when there is a record flood on the Mississippi. We went up and took dozens of shots of the very high water one day last week. I've also been up two other times with another friend. For someone who deals with hydrology professionally, this is an exciting event. You can see pictures of my flights and shots from the ground throughout the flood by visiting this site and checking out any of the "Flood 2011" galleries.

"Still Open for Business" - Mike
This discount furniture store is located right near the river by the old train depot in Vicksburg. We went down to see the flood a few days before the crest and I thought it was funny that they had a big sign that read, "YES, WE'RE STILL OPEN!" The owner had to go in and out in a boat. The water is now up to the sandbagged door in this photo, but the sign is still up and the water shouldn't get really much higher.

"Broccoli and Carrots" - Matt
It's been a beautiful spring, just right for my carrot and broccoli plants. Had fun trying to balance a flash with the sun while still getting the clouds to turn out.

"Rose Touched By Rain and Then Sunshine" - Lisa
ISO 200 50mm f/1.8 1/2000 sec

Not really. I cheated by using a spray bottle (trick from Scott Kelby) and stuck the miniature rose pot my husband bought for our neighbor for mowing our lawn the other day but hasn't giving it to her yet, in the sunlight to capture a weather related photo for this week's entry. I tried... what can I say.

Next Week's Challenge:
"Self Portrait - With a Prop"
Due: 25 May 2011
Take a self portrait shot. The photo should tell us something about you and should utilize a prop of some sort to add interest and meaning. Experiment and have fun!

Mike
